Beat the heat

The rain has finally stopped! Now the summer heat has arrived and people every where are looking for some cool relief. Have no fear. Lincster here has provided some visual aids to show you how to beat the summer heat. This is good news. In other good news I get to go from working full time to part time which means more time at home with my little guy!! Two weeks and counting, woo hoo!! Feel free to celebrate with me at your computer desks and do a little dance, I know I did.

Another fun trip to Colorado! It was so nice to enjoy a long weekend and not have anything to worry about. We stayed with Landon's cousins at the ranch house. It rained most of the time so we watched movies and enjoyed their new hot tub they put on the deck.

Landon's cousin's little boy Paul, who is playing with Link on the slide, turned two so they had a fun party for him.
I was walking with Link and this cupcake and he decided that I was taking too long so he just shoved his face in the cupcake.

Landon's cousin collects guns and he has this gigantor one. I'm can't remember what it's called but it was so loud.

Poor Landon. Anytime we go to Colorado something on him gets swollen. Last time it was that hangy thing in the back of your throat. It was so weird it got huge. Kinda gross. Then this time his eye got all swollen. We'll see what happens next time.

Back to the blogging world. We've been so busy lately that our poor blog had to suffer for a while.

So it's summer! Don't you just love this time of the year? I think as I get older I like it more and more. Since it's been warm out we've got to work on our yard. For those of you who don't know we live in quite the fixer upper. Since we've been working on other parts of the house the front yard has been enjoying the back burner. not anymore. We put our sprinkling system in last fall so that come spring time we could bust out our landscaping skills right away. It's been so fun deciding where we are going to put our flower beds and buying flowers. We got some free grass last fall we put down that we thought would cover most of the front lawn but ended up only covering about 1/4, it looked pretty interesting...lets just say we wouldn't be winning yard of the month, but hey you can't pass up free grass. I'm not complaining. Last night we seeded the rest so I am excited to announce that in a few weeks I will have a front lawn! Woo hoo! Here's a few pictures of our up and coming front yard. We are also working on our dining room and when that's finished I'll be posting some before and after picture. It will be a.w.e.s.o.m.e.

Landon made me this cute garden box for my birthday. I love it. :)

Link has been taking his first steps the past couple of weeks! He's getting pretty good too. Crawling is still his main way of transportation but he is walking more and more. It's so cute! He gets so excited every time he makes it from the chair to the couch. He gets to one side and squeels and gets on his tippy toes then bounces up and down. He has been so cute these past couple of weeks to watch!

Last week we decided to go bowling at the famous Jack and Jill bowling alley. That place has been there forever! I remember going there when I was a wee one. We've got some home videos of me and my sisters that are pretty entertaining. Link had a great time, he loved going up with each person on their turn to "help".

Link turned one on Sunday! It seems like just yesterday I was bringing him home all swaddled up. I couldn't stop staring at him. I tried picturing what he would look like when he was older thinking a year was so far away and it's gone by in a flash! He has been such a wonderful blessing in our lives and he makes me want to be a better person everyday. We had his party on Saturday with family and friends. It was an old western theme and it was so fun! He got some fun presents and got to have some cake. I tried my best at his cake thinking I could make it look like the ones I had looked up on the internet...yeah right. I have decided I am hiring out next time. Oh well, it tasted good and that's the only thing that matters right? He liked it. He was so pooped out by the end of the party Landon picked him up and he put his head on Landon's shoulder and fell asleep. It has been a great year and I am so thankful to have this sweet little boy in my life. I had to do a slide show because I took a lot of pictures...surprise, surprise. :)

Hey folks. Sorry I've neglected the blog lately, nothing too exciting has been going on at the DeHaas casa recently.

We made the most delicious home made pizza the other night. Honestly I think it was the best pizza I'v ever had...sounds dramatic I know but really it was so good. We made a tasty Hawaiian with some ham and juicy pineapple and then we made a BBQ chicken, tomato and spinach one...mmmmm...that one was my favorite.

My little guy is 11 months! Where did the time go? He is getting so big. I love rocking him to sleep and I know he'll be too big soon so I soak it up every chance I get. Link's vocabulary consists of oh what, uh oh, ma ma, da da, and no no and some other crazy ones.

Landon's sister is a hair dresser and she gave Link he's first mini hair cut today. And by mini I mean like a few little baby hairs that were growing faster then the others...not quite to the mullet status but getting there.

A very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

2009 here we come! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year! I'm a little late posting this, luckily no longer being a procrastinator is one of my new years goals I'll be working on this year. :) Christmas was so great this year. We started off the festivities by heading to my moms house for Christmas Eve. The night started by lighting Finish candles in my moms front yard. My grandpa, who served two LDS missions in Finland, passed away a few years ago and every year for Christmas the hospice lady, who is now a close friend of the family, comes with her family and does Finish candles in honor of my grandpa. Since grandma was spending Christmas with us they came to my moms house. The candles are made out of snow balls and then they put a candle in the middle. It was so neat! Such a wonderful way to start Christmas. Then we headed inside for some cookies and hot cider my Grandma fixed up.

After that we opened some presents, relaxed for a bit then headed home. After we put Link to bed Landon and I decided we would open our presents that we had for each other, which was fun to do with just the two of us. Then I sat and watched the snow for a while. I loved that it snowed so much on Christmas Eve, (and I loved that we didn't have to travel very far Christmas day) it was like the cherry on top.

Christmas day was filled with visiting family, gift giving and eating...it was excellent. Doesn't get better then family, food and presents!

This year we headed to Texas for Thanksgiving for some family fun with Landon's sister, Hillary and her family. It was lots of fun! We flew in on Thanksgiving day and Link did pretty good for his first time flying, but there were definitely some struggles...they do not make those planes baby friendly. There is NO place to change a diaper, at least not on the plane we were on. We made it there all in one piece and Heidi had dinner all ready by the time we got there. It was delicious. :) I love Thanksgiving.
Later that night we headed to downtown Houston where Santa appeared and they had a firework show. The word on the street was that Santa was going to parachute off of a building but sadly he didn't, he took the safer route I guess and just waved from a stage. The firework show was great! They went off right in between the buildings. Here is Hil, Jer and Iz awaiting the fireworks.

They had Christmas trees lining the whole road and they lit up when Santa came. There were tons of people there!

Iz and Link were so cute together. Izzy would jump on the bed and Link would try and crawl after her and then they would both scream.

We took a trip down to Galviston and saw some of the damage that had been done when the huricane hit. Jer spent a lot of time there helping clean up right after it hit so he showed us around. It is amazing to me that a storm can do so much damage! After we looked around for a bit we spent some time at the beach. It was fun taking Link to the beach for the first time. He loved putting his little feet in the water. I'll be posting some more pictures of the beach on my photography blog so head over there to check them out.

The rest of the time we saw some movies, did some shopping and got some rest. It was a fun little vacation. We had a great Thanksgiving and I hope all of you did too!

So I got this off of my friend's blog and I wanted to share it. I previously had put that this was said by David Letterman and I was informed that it was not said by him. I didn't think it really sounded Letterman style when I first read it, anyway i don't know who said it but I like it. If anyone knows let me know.

''The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe.It must be true given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President.In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, 'What are we so unhappy about?'

A. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?

B. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

C. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?

D. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

E. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state.

F. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

G. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough either.

H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

I. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home.

J. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.

K. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.

L. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and computers.

M. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?

Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the worldhas ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are.

The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Or the Congress with a much lower approval rating.

Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks?

The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me?Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad?

Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom.There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go.They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans?

Say what you want, but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner?

The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations.They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another.

Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it thisway......Insane!

Turn off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage.Then start being grateful for all we have as a country.There is exponentially more good than bad.We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.

'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, 'Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'-

AMEN!!

Bad blogger

So I haven't been the best blogger lately. This comes from starting work full time and no internet at the casa. But I finally made some time today. :)

For conference weekend, yes it's been a while since I've posted, we took a drive out to Hannah to enjoy some breakfast/lunch at a small diner. For those of you who dont know where Hannah is it is out in the middle of no where...seriously. The drive was about 2 hours long and so pretty! Ralph was nice enough to pull over and let me take some shots.

Landon's birthday was a few weeks ago and I surprised him with a little trip to snowbird. It was so cold! But our room looked right out onto the mountain and it was so beautiful with all the fall colors. It was so nice to relax and spend some time with my hubby.

I decided to give Linky pinky a bath in the sink the other day. He loved it! He kept trying to pull him self up and the side and stand up. He made quite a mess in the kitchen so I dont know if I'll do it again but he had a good time.

My camera came! I am so excited to get started! I've decided to do a practice blog so I can see my progress and so that my family blog isn't horded with tons of pictures. In other news, Link turned six months! When I took him in for his six month appointmen he had grown 75% and was in the 90th percentile for highth. He's getting so big, I love it. This is such a fun stage!

My sister Nikki is in the marching band and they did a run through last night for the families. They are so good! It was a fun night with the fam. :)

So yesterday, as all of you know, was September 11th. I think almost everyone remembers where they were when they heard about the world trade centers being hit. I was just leaving my house to go to the high school to meet Aubrey to head up to Clear Creek when my dad pulled up and told me. Aubrey and I went up to Clear Creek and had to tell everyone there what had happened. It was a great experience to see everyone come together and talk about what a great country we live in and pray for the ones that had been effected by the terrorist attacks. This day always makes me sad but at the same time so greatful to live in this country and be an American!

This weekend I got to borrow my friends camera to see if its the kind I want to get to get started in photography. It was so fun! Gunner was my first victim because I couldn't wait long enough for Link wake up from his nap. Of course I took lots of pictures of Link and some of my neighbor's little boy. I also got to be the photographer for Heidi's high school class reunion. It was definately intertaining with Heidi as the MC. She should have her own talk show I think. It was neat to see some of the old pictures they had of people going to 'dear old AF high', the same high school I did. Does it make me a dork if I wanted to jump up and sing our highschool song when it started playing? I think so. Anyway it was awesome! I can't wait to get my own camera. When I do I'll need some ginni pigs so let me know if you're interested. :) Here are some of my favorites from the weekend.

Idaho!

I can't believe summer is almost over! We've had such a busy month it feels like it's just flown by. Last weekend we took a trip to Idaho with Landon's family. We stayed in a cabin called Landon's Lodge (very fitting I thought). We rode four wheelers, did some hiking and floated down a river and saw some moose. One of the nights we had a bat decide it wanted to lodge inside that cabin with us. It was quite the sight seeing everyone try to get the bat out. Everytime it would take flight everyone would start screaming and then start to laugh cause everyone was screaming. Heidi decided that she would try to hit the bat with a potato, needless to say that did not work and ended up hitting me with it, which caused more screams and then more laughing. We finally got it with a broom. It was a pretty exciting evening! Well the trip was awesome and it was fun to spend some time with the fam. Here are some pictures.

Last night my neighbor and I went for a nice long walk that kicked my booty. The weather was so nice and Lincoln just chilled in his stroller the whole time. Upon my return I found that my dog also had a nice time while I was away. Some how he had gotten a hold of my wallet...it was all over the place! Luckily he showed some mercy to my debit card and my drivers license, I can still use those. I was so mad at him. I scolded him for a good five minutes. Shoving the torn up pieces in his face, asking him "what where you thinking?! Do you think everything is your personal chew toy?" I could tell he felt bad, he wouldn't look at me while I was informing him of what a bad dog he had been. Well at least now I have an excuse to go buy myself a new wallet. :)

Happy 4th of July! (Long post!)

We journeyed to Colorado for the 4th of July this year. It was lots of fun! Thursday and Friday we stayed with John and Chelsey (Landon's cousins) at their ranch house. It was so pretty there and the weather was perfect, it stayed right around 85 the whole time. Just to warn you this is a long post. :) As usual there are plenty of pictures!

Road trip! Linc did so good for his first road trip and being stuck in his car seat. Just a side note, these are taken at a potty break which is why he is not in his car seat, just in case you thought I was going all Brittney Spears on you. It's always safety first in my book.
Here is the ranch house we stayed in. It was so pretty and a great place to enjoy the 4th!

We got to drive around on the Rhino. It was lots of fun and quite dusty, by the time we got back it looked like I had a una brow and a stache.

Saturday we left the ranch and went to Ben and Shelli's (Landon's cousins) cabin. They made us a delicious steak dinner and afterwords we relaxed in the hot tub for a bit. Lincoln wasn't digging the hot tub at first but after a while he calmed down and almost fell asleep in Grandpa Ralph's arms. He looked so cute in his little swimming suit!

Cereal Milestone

Two posts in one week...thats what happens when you've got some extra time on the puter. Word to the wise though, if you find yourself having some extra time at work, DO NOT make a post on your blog including your company's name saying how incredibly bored you are at work and ask for some good book suggestions, this will unfortunately send a message to the CEO of the company allowing them to see your post with a result of almost getting you fired. Awesome. Anyway now that I am done with my warning back to the main reason I am posting. Yesterday we fed Linc some banana flavored cereal for the first time. I don't think he was a fan. Although operation cereal wasn't a huge success I sure had fun watching his "what the crap is this" facial expressions. I love watching him go through these small but important milestones. So fun!

My roley poley Linky has learned to roll over! I got some sweet actions pictures as you can see. Love the fuzz. I guess he decided to take his new trick and roll with it (yes, pun intended) because today while he was taking his nap at Grandma Manning's house he rolled off the bed! Scarey! I couldn't believe it, and I was so sad that I wasn't there to comfort him. Grandma said he's doing fine though. I can't wait to get off work today so I can kiss his squishy little face.

Lincoln is blessed...FINALLY!!

Hey everyone. Lincoln was finally blessed yesterday. We had to post pone due to some scheduling conflicts but we finally got it done and it was beautiful. Landon did a great job! It was short and sweet. :) I loved it. I feel so blessed to have such a beautiful family and to be a member of the church. Eternal families baby!! Thanks to everyone for all of your love and support! It was a great day!

There's a new sheriff in town

Gunner has chewed up 3 remotes! Those things aren't cheap either, $35 a pop! To resolve this issue we've hired a sheriff. Let me know if you can't hear the audio, I couldn't hear it when I tried to play it.

I’ve been tagged! This is my first time so I am proud to enter the tagging club. Here are 7 things about me.

-I am a grandma…well I have grandma tendencies. I love taking naps and going to bed early. (My favorite place to take a nap is on my grandma’s couch…very comfy.) One of my favorite shows is Golden Girls. I enjoy listening to the soft sounds of FM100 and occasionally relax with Delilah on Cozy. BINGO just happens to be one of my favorite games. Granny for life!

-I am a lover of Mexican food. It is my absolute favorite. If I could I would have a fiesta everyday! Bring on the chips and salsa baby! Here are some of my favorite places to eat in no particular order. They are all muy bueno!!

-I LOVE being outdoors. Camping, four wheeling, boating, hiking, picnics, I love it all! I have always loved living in Utah and being so close to the mountains. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is take my rubber raft with my man-made anchor up to silver lake to read a book and lay out. It’s the best! I’ve definitely had some good times being out in the wild, I’ve even encountered a naked mountain man…YIKES!!

-So this next one isn’t one that I do a lot. I would do it a lot more if I had more time. I like making blankets. My favorite blanket that I’ve made is one I made out of T-shirts. Some of my shirts are from my high school days, some are from friends and family and some are from different places I’ve been to like Hawaii and Heritage Tours. I have a tendency to hold onto things and I knew I couldn’t hold on to all of these shirts that unfortunately don’t fit me anymore so I thought it would be a cool idea to put them all in a blanket. I’ve decided that I’m going to make a blanket for each of my kids with their shirts and make a row each year and give it to them as a graduation present.

-Now this is a weird one…I might regret posting this later but it’s the truth. I love kissing Lincoln’s little feet! Some of you might know that I used have a huge foot phobia I didn’t even like to look at feet let alone touch them. Now I’m playing patty cake with them, putting them on my face to play peek-a-boo and giving them kisses. Crazy what motherhood will do to you.

-Watch out Ansel Adams here I come! This one will come at no surprise to most of you seeing as the majority of my blog is pictures. I love to take pictures! I’ve have been called being picture happy many times, probably too many. My dream job is to be a photographer. One day when I can afford a better camera and some photography classes I will be one. :)

-This one is a combination of different things that I hold dear to my heart, family, friends and food. I am a huge fan of hanging out and eating with a bunch of people you love. Landon and I were talking about what the perfect day would be and we decided that we would start out the day with going boating with our favorite people then we would pack a lunch and go up the canyon in our hella nice jeep where we would have four wheelers for everyone, after four wheeling for a few hours we would drive home to our huge house and have a nice big BBQ then we would play games for a bit (if we had any energy) then watch a movie under the stars on our projector. Fun huh? Well we’ll let you all know when that party goes down...unless you are not on the favorite people list, then you are not invited, ha ha just kidding.

So I can't believeLincoln is three months old! The time has flown by...I think I say that every post but it really has! :) I didn't realize how big Link has gotten until we went to see Tyler and Kilee's new baby. It was crazy! It seems like he is changing every day. He is "talking" and being a lot more active, it's so fun! I'm pretty sure being a mother is the greatest thing in the world!

Once again I wanted to post this last week but didn't have time. Our awesome dog turned a year old on April 27th. Gunner-man has been a great addition to our family. A few weeks after we got Gunner I found out I was pregnant so with the exception of cleaning dog poop during my first trimester (barf!) he came at the perfect time. He definately helped Landon and I prepare for parenthood! He was a lot of work as a puppy. Gunner is a great dog and we couldn't picture life without him. Here are some pictures of my little pumpkin head.

Here we are at week number 3! Man time flies when you're having fun. Lincoln has been a great baby. Everyone tells me how lucky I am that I have a good baby....and not to mention a freaking cute one! :) Here are some pictures of his different facial expressions. Just FYI I am a picture taking addict so there are a lot of pictures...I can't help it...don't judge. Landon is a great dad and a big help. Our dog Gunner has done a great job of adjusting to the new arrival, (thank goodness!) with the exception that he thinks Lincoln's diapers are a new chew toy for him. But better the diapers then Lincoln's limbs. :) Well it's has been a great 3 weeks, and I am definately learning a lot and I absolutely love being a mom!

After nine long months our little boy is finally here!! He was born February 22nd at 3:09 in the afternoon. He weighed 7 lbs 5 oz and was 20 inches long. The whole process took about 13 hours starting at 2 am. I was quite miserable from 2:00 in the morning till about 12:30 when I received my blessed epidural, then it was smooth sailing from there! Now we have a beautiful healthy boy and couldn't be happier! Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers!!

So I've decided I am absolutely horrible at keeping this thing updated. I apologize to those that have visited our blog in hopes of finding a new post and were shot down. But I am here to redeem myself with a new post! So I'm just about a week away from my due date and I can't wait. I think if he hasn't come by next Friday I'm just going to start pushing and see what happens ha ha. We've got just about everything ready for him to come. Hi everyone! Welcome to our blog! I’ve never been one for blogs but this is such a fun way to keep people updated on what’s going on with the DeHaas family I couldn’t resist. I can tell that this is going to be quite time consuming for me seeing as it took me about two hours to format the header the way I wanted it…..unfortunately that is not an exaggeration. Anyway, I guess I’ll tell you a little bit about Landon and I. We got married April 7, 2006 in the Salt Lake Temple. Married life has been great so far! We keep very busy working on our house, occupying our dog and getting things ready for the baby! I’m due February 23rd so only a few more months to go! Landon’s going back to school in the summer to go into graphic design so we are excited about that. Quite a lot of things going on! Well that’s about it. Hope you enjoy!
